Recovery Can Happen is an NCCPSS training program designed to prepare participants to become Certified Peer Support Specialists—individuals who draw on their own lived experiences with recovery to support others navigating mental health and substance use challenges.
This 50-hour, five-day interactive course blends discussion, group activities, and real-world scenarios to build a strong foundation in peer support principles. Participants learn to understand the roles and responsibilities of a Peer Support Specialist, work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, navigate service systems, resolve conflict, and uphold ethics, boundaries, and agency standards.
Trainees gain practical tools and confidence to model that recovery can happen, offering genuine hope and connection to those seeking wellness. The curriculum was developed by Terri Spears, former Kellin Foundation Peer Support Supervisor.
