Our Mission

Prevent. Treat. Heal.

The Kellin Foundation’s mission is to strengthen resilience among children, families, adults and communities through trauma-informed behavioral health services focused on prevention, treatment, and healing.

We provide free services that help clients break cycles of trauma that contribute to mental health and substance use challenges. Our team of highly-trained professionals helps people process what has happened to them, to practice new skills that contribute to healing, and to gain confidence that they can chart a different course for themselves and their families.

To achieve our mission, we provide evidence-based, trauma-responsive counseling, peer support, advocacy, and case coordination services. In addition, we provide training and facilitate teams working together to build a stronger Guilford County.

Our History

Since 1940

The Kellin Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization based in Guilford County, NC, was established in 2013 by co-founders Dr. Kelly Graves and Lindy Beauregard. Originally staffed by two part-time employees, the organization soon expanded to meet the growing community need for trauma-informed treatment services for children, adults, and families. In 2016,  as a leap of faith and with the backing of committed donors, the organization opened its clinic doors to provide behavioral health services to uninsured and underinsured community members who otherwise would not have access to care.

The Kellin Foundation experienced exponential growth in all areas – the array of services and programs provided, the number of staff employed, associated funding, and the number of community partners and volunteers engaged. The organization was also recognized as a National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) clinic, one of only two in North Carolina.

In 2021, the Boards of Mental Health Greensboro and the Kellin Foundation started exploring a closer partnership with the goal of improving access to free behavioral health services to community members. Mental Health Greensboro, originally established in 1940 as the Mental Health Hygiene Society, has been a strong advocate for those experiencing mental illness, creating a rich array of programs that have left a lasting footprint in Greensboro and beyond.

The Boards found that the organizations shared similar values, including a deep commitment to providing free services to those who need it, to using evidence-based approaches, and to reducing stigma associated with mental health and substance use challenges. After testing the concept with numerous stakeholders across Guilford County, the organizations completed the merger in March 2022.

The organization, which has a combined 82 years of service, continues to be led by Dr. Kelly Graves. The Board of Directors has been expanded, staff have rolled into the new organization, and integration of services and processes is underway. As the transition continues, we will be laser focused on our original goal of ensuring that more children, teens, adults, and families are connected to free, evidence-based, comprehensive behavioral health services when they need it.
